WINTER TRAINING

(18/06/2013)

Well that’s only just finished in time !

Of course, that’s winter, not the training, in theory that’s still going.

Well sort of!!

There were some great highlights …

early on I managed an epic 125 miles with Jon Hicks and Russell Hanson ( http://connect.garmin.com/activity/273903117 )

next came a good ride in Ronde van Vlaanderen – http://connect.garmin.com/activity/291318690

then there were two very good weekends in May.

Starting with the Pearson Weekender with some great routes from Guy Pearson and much welcome support from Terri Sidgwick and Dennis, and of course some sterling Ride Captain duties by Dave “Whisk” Sidgwick. So a brilliant weekend totalling 357 miles.

The second bank holiday weekend saw a return to the Tour of Wessex.  For those who have never tried it, it is a must !
Three great day with English countryside at its best – another 300 mile + weekend.

WHAT’S IT ALL IN AID OF …

(08/06/2013)

The event is called “Tour de Force” and is all in aid of:-

The William Wates Memorial Trust exists to celebrate the life of William Wates who was tragically killed when travelling in South America. The Trust is a grants giving registered charity set up in 1998 with a mission to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence, and fulfill their potential. This is mainly achieved by supporting charities that engage young people through the mediums of sports, arts and education.

The WWMT support many very worthwhile groups, many of them and their good works are highlighted on the website.

THE START OF LE TOUR

(07/06/2013)

This year is the 100th edition of the Tour de France !

Being of un-sound mind and dubious body I thought it would be nice to return to France for some closed road riding.

All this pondering last summer well before the route for L’Etape was announced.  But searching the interweb I stumbled across “Tour de Force” offering the whole tour route – I registered my interest immediately.

Not much to do till September, when entries opened, still two months before the Etape would be announced.  Plenty of time for discussing my madness with Anne (my long suffering wife), lots of “You know you want to … “

Away at a conference for work, entry started at 10:00, oh dear in the middle of a presentation … never mind Stages 1-9 entered maybe this could be the best of all worlds.  Ride half the 100th Tour de France, and be back time for Camp Vesta at HRR.

Time to start training …
